London to Brighton Cycle28/06/17
On the 18th June Charles and Henry Martin from Meopham School both completed the British Heart Foundation London to Brighton bike ride.
It was an early start having to be at Clapham Common for a 0730 start. It was already starting to get very warm.
They set off with the other 15,000 rides on the 54 mile ride to Brighton. The ride itself was very well marshaled with plenty of water and food stops.
It was hottest day of the year and they needed to stop a number of times to fill water bottles. People were cooling riders down with hoses from their front gardens.
The boys rode up all the hills including the very steep Ditchling Beacon.
On arriving in Brighton the crowds cheered the riders along the sea front where their names were called out as they crossed the finish line and they were presented with a medal.
They raised £300 for the BHF and are looking forward to next years ride! Such a wonderful achievement for two students from the school.
Thank you to Ian Martin for supplying this story.
