Key Stage 3 Philosophy Curriculum Intent

In Key Stage 3 Philosophy we cover the Citizenship National Curriculum, as well as the SACRE Kent Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education. We aim to deliver a varied and challenging curriculum to suit multiple learning styles. Our purpose is to encourage a passion for our subject alongside developing excellence of character, and by allowing students to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. Students' are encouraged to understand the complexity of peoples' lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as exploring their own identity. 

Students' are taught in mixed ability groups where ta range of guided tasks promote progress. This lends itself to opportunities for all abilities to work independently, as well as in mixed groups, to promote progress through the teaching/ coaching of each other. This improves their resilience, reflectiveness, resourcefulness and reciprocity skills. The schemes of work have a careful balance of extended writing opportunities, coupled with oracy tasks (e.g. role play, source work and television show adaptations) to promote pupils’ ability to become well-rounded individuals.
