How do we meet the requirements of the 16 – 19 study programme?
All ESFA funded education for 16 to 19 year olds should be delivered as a study programme which combines qualifications and other activities, and which is tailored to each student’s prior attainment and career goals.
The study programme for each student provides a structured and challenging learning programme that supports their development and progression in line with their career plans.
Meopham’s programme of study typically include the following:
-
Substantial qualifications that stretch students and prepare them for education at the next level or for employment. Our offer includes a range of A Levels and Level 3 BTEC courses. Course choices will be informed by students’ prior attainment, interests and career ambitions. All students at Meopham are enrolled on a full time course which is typically 3 A Levels or the equivalent. Every study programme must have a core aim, for all students, this will be the study of substantial qualifications.
-
Mathematics where students have not yet achieved a GCSE grade 4. Students are enrolled into mathematics following their GCSE results and have timetabled lessons as well as OSL opportunities.
-
As part of the school curriculum in year 12 all students will take part in a work experience placement. It is intended to give them a true experience in their field of interest to support decision making when it comes to their future career.
-
The Meopham Baccalaureate of Education comprises Personal Development, employment, study and life skills. Students across the two years will take part in; workshops, conferences, work placements, leadership schemes and online courses. Students will also be able to take part in a range of enrichment opportunities, where they will develop soft skills such as communication, presenting, public speaking, professionalism and leadership.
We run a range of programmes that offer leadership opportunities in Sixth Form that form the top layer of student leadership within the school. Students are encouraged to take up some form of leadership role. Our Student leaders are supported in all their endeavours by the Sixth Form Leadership Team. These students support the wider school community and work together to develop the student experience.
